Travel does not have to be expensive. Most people think traveling is expensive because they think travel is all about staying in your hotel and eating at the hotel restaurant. Hotel stays are nice if you're on a honeymoon or for very special occasions.
But, if you're just traveling to get out of town and experience new things then hostels can be a wonderful experience. I've stayed in some really amazing miami florida hostels. My favorite is Deco Walk Hostel right on Ocean Blvd. They have a hot tub on the roof, the rooms are clean and they will even park your car for free while you're there.
When you stay at a hostel, you have an instant network of friends. People want to meet you and hang out. There is no "bubble" around people when staying on hostels. Try it out. You may make new friends from all over the world that want you to come visit and stay at their place for free...but be willing offer the same in return.
